K2000/K2500 Series FAQ

  1. Can you print bar code and text on the same label?

Yes, the K2000 series has this ability. In order to do this: go into F4 (Bar code) and scroll (using the arrows) to the bar code that you want to use. Press enter. Go back to your text screen and type your bar code information. Press enter. You should be on the second line now. Go back into F4 (Bar code). Select "None", enter. You should be back to the text screen. Type in your text.

If you get a "Text too tall" prompt, make sure the point size is not too large. If you need to make the point size smaller: press F2, SIZE, enter a smaller point size. (Make sure your cursor is at the beginning of your text before changing the point size).

  2. How do you use file management?

Press F1 for the file management function. You have 4 menu options: New, Open, Save and Delete. NEW will start a new file. OPEN will open a saved file. SAVE will save a format or text as a file. DELETE will delete a saved file.

  3. What is the paging feature and how do you use it?

The paging feature allows you to enter more than one label at a time. For example, if you have to make three different labels, instead of making one label and pressing print, making the next label and pressing print, and making the final label and pressing print, you can enter the information for all three labels at once and press print once.

Enter the text for the first label that you want to make. Press shift and the down arrow. This creates a new page (or label). You can now enter the text for your next label. When you have finished making all of your labels, press print. All of the pages (or labels) will print.

  4. How do you sequence?

In order to sequence: Press F3 and then "S" (for sequence). You should get a menu of INSERT, ALPHA, and NUMERIC. INSERT allows you to add the sequence feature to a file (if you want to insert a sequence into a saved file, the file must be opened first). ALPHA allows you to sequence using the alphabet. NUMERIC allows you to sequence using numbers. After you have chosen INSERT, ALPHA, or NUMERIC you will get a prompt for the start number or letter, followed by a prompt for the end number or letter, and finally a prompt for the increment #. After you have entered this information, an omega symbol will appear on the text screen. Press print to print the sequence.

  5. How do you justify text?

In order to justify: press F2. Press "J" for justify. Choose Left, Right, or Center. (If you are justifying already typed text, make sure that the cursor is at the beginning of the text that you want to justify).

  6. How do you change the point size?

In order to change the point size: press F2 followed by "S" for size. Enter the point size you want and press enter. Press Esc. Type in text. (If the text is already typed in make sure that the cursor is at the beginning of the text)

  7. I keep getting the "Text Too Tall" prompt.

There are a few reasons that you could be getting this prompt. You will get the "text too tall" prompt if the point size you are trying to print is too large. For example, printing 4 lines at 36 pt. would be too large to print on a one-inch label. You would need to make the point size smaller.

You will also get the "text too tall" prompt if you use the delete/backspace key to create a new label. (i.e.: Instead of using F1-NEW, you simply delete the contents of your current label and type your new label). When you do this, the attributes pile up at the first character and confuse the system. If your system is already confused, you have to reboot it. This will erase ALL of your files and clear the system so the "Text Too Tall" prompt doesn't come up. In order to reboot the system, turn the system off. When you turn it on, hold down the ESC key. If you want to avoid this problem, you should always make a new file for each new label you create (F1-New).
